PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Through a partnership with the City of Houston and BikeHouston, Precinct One is installing a network of over 18 miles of high-comfort bikeway across a number of neighborhoods in central Houston. Other
improvements include 33 transit stop enhancements in coordination with METRO, 189 curb ramps for ADA accessibility, intersection improvements, pavement repairs and curb improvements to significant
segments of the bikeway corridor.

In this first phase, on-street, high comfort bikeways are being installed along segments of Kelley St., Hardy St., Elysian St., Lyons Ave., McKee St., Austin Ave., Hutchins St., Gray St. Cleburne St., Polk St. and Cullen Ave.  Shared lanes are installed on LaBranch Ave.

PROJECT BENEFITS:

The Houston area is one of the most dangerous communities in the country for pedestrians and people on bikes.  The addition of high-comfort, protected bikeways can:

  • Improve safety and reduce crashes
  • Increase access to active transportation
  • Improve health and reduce pollution
  • Connect people to parks, job centers, medical care, businesses and other destinations
