Commissioner Ellis’s Statement on Dismissal of Charges Against Former Public Health Director Robinson

02 May, 25

District Attorney Sean Teare’s decision to dismiss every felony indictment against former Harris County Public Health Director Barbie Robinson underscores a troubling truth: too many headline grabbing investigations launched by previous DA Kim Ogg never had the evidence to stand up in court.

That’s what happens when you use the power of the DA’s office to settle petty political scores instead of upholding justice for the people of Harris County. Ogg’s baseless corruption probes have eroded public trust and wasted precious tax dollars. This latest collapse follows a pattern of politically driven cases targeting Black and Brown public servants—witch hunts that crumble when real prosecutors look at the facts.

A Houston Chronicle investigation found these failed cases have already cost taxpayers over $1 million in legal fees and sown fear across county departments. Harris County residents deserve accountability rooted in evidence, not politics.

I commend DA Teare for restoring that standard and look forward to working together on reforms that put justice—and public confidence—first.
