In 1949, Thelma and Charles Mercer' bought 14.5 acres of wild woods alongside Cypress Creek. Through their dedication and care over the next 24 years, in the face of natural disaster, the land was built into a garden paradise.

In the Mercer Arboretum on the west side of Aldine Westfield Road, one can find a hickory bog and boardwalk, cypress swamp, maple collection, and several miles of walking trails that wind through the beautifully preserved woodland. In addition to providing intimate access to nature, the park is perfect for time with friends and family, with two playgrounds and a picnic area nestled in a woodland setting.

As of July 15, 2024, both the Mercer Arboretum and Mercer Botanic Gardens are managed by Precinct 3.  Learn more about the Mercer Botanic Gardens.
