PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Your zip code shouldn’t determine your ability to find a great place to exercise, play, or enjoy the outdoors. That’s why Precinct One is investing in building 5 new SPARK Parks throughout Precinct One. The locations include Anderson Elementary and the Arabic Immersion Magnet School in Houston ISD, Horn Elementary in Alief ISD, Lakeshore Elementary in Humble ISD and Royalwood Elementary in Sheldon ISD. Each project location is unique but typically can include playground equipment, trails, picnic tables, trees and other features.

For Precinct One, this is the continuation of a partnership that has helped provide improvements at SPARK Parks at Carroll Elementary School in Sheldon ISD and Osborne, Peterson and McGowen Elementary Schools in Houston ISD.

PROJECT BENEFITS:

Unfortunately, many neighborhoods in the greater Houston area don’t have access to nearby park. These five additional SPARK Parks will greatly enhance the quality of life for Precinct One residents by:

  • Expanding access to healthy recreational opportunities
  • Expanding access to nature and the outdoors
  • Addressing a shortage of parklands in Harris County

PROJECT UPDATES:

Construction is complete at AIMS, Royalwood, Lakeshore, and Horn Elementary Schools.

Construction on Anderson Elementary is still pending.
