STUDY

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Every neighborhood should have access to quality trails that open up recreational opportunities and bring communities together. Harris County Precinct One completed a study to examine the feasibility of creating a hike-and-bike trail system along Carpenters Bayou, connecting neighborhoods to regional parks, recreational activities, and other destinations.  The full study can be found here.

This study is an important first step in understanding the feasibility, potential cost, and community priorities of future trails within northeast Harris County. Although funding for design and construction has not been committed, this study will help inform future designs and funding opportunities.  Currently, Precinct One is looking for funding and partnership opportunities to expand the existing trail network identified in the study.

PROJECT BENEFITS

The addition of trails in Northeast Harris County will:

  • Improve access to opportunities for healthy recreation
  • Create safe, off-road space to walk and bike
  • Expand access to nature and greenspace
  • Connect multiple neighborhoods with safe walking and biking trails

COMMUNITY MEETINGS

Three community meetings were held on August 3, October 28, December 7, 2021 to solicit community input on the study.  Your input helped identify key issues, opportunities, and challenges for Carpenters Bayou and the surrounding landscape for future trail connectors.

Recordings of the community meetings can be found below.
