Fair elections mean free, safe, accessible elections where everyone can vote without barriers.

Precinct One is dedicated to ensuring that everyone enjoys full participation in our democracy.

In every election, decisions are made that will impact your life, your family, and your community for decades to come. When elections occur, every vote should be counted, and every voice should be heard. As the late Congressman John Lewis said, “The vote is the most powerful nonviolent tool in our democracy.” For years, activists have tirelessly fought for the right to vote. Precinct One believes it is our responsibility to ensure that this sacred right and important tool for change is protected for everyone.

ELECTIONS ADMINISTRATOR

We cannot fully ensure that all residents have access to the ballot box if we do not move away from old systems meant to disenfranchise communities of color. This is why Precinct One proposed creating an Office of the Elections Administrator for Harris County.  By creating the Harris County Elections Administrator office, the county is appropriately elevating the importance of elections and demonstrating the vital need to have those elections expertly overseen.  Splitting our county’s election duties between two offices, as we have previously done, prevents the ability to streamline the electoral process and does not allow for our elections to be a year-round priority.

Our Elections Administrator will ensure that we can increase voter registration and build on initiatives that led to historic turnout in the 2020 election so that all Harris County residents are represented in our government.

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

Becoming civically engaged in your community brings many benefits to you and your neighbors. The Precinct One Community Relations team focuses much of its time on creating a platform that allows residents to start conversations with HCP1, make their needs known, and bring real change to our community. While voting is one of the best ways to make your voice heard, there are other ways you can raise issues and make your voice heard when it isn’t election day.
